In a somber update related to the recent drowning incident involving two Ateneo basketball players, Baterbonia, 19, and Adili, 21, tragically drowned during a team-building exercise on June 8 at a private resort in Dipaculao, Aurora. Following the incident, Ateneo de Davao has been cooperating with the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to ensure a thorough understanding of the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Ateneo has confirmed that Baterbonia's parents requested an autopsy to clarify the circumstances surrounding their son's passing. The bodies were transferred to Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City, where Ateneo president Fr. Roberto Yap provided support to Baterbonia's family.
