Alexandra "Alex" Eala has made history by reaching a career-high ranking of No. 88 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) doubles rankings. This milestone comes after she gained 120 points, bringing her total to 888.
Eala climbed 13 spots from her previous ranking of No. 101 just two weeks ago, surpassing her former high of No. 99.
The 20-year-old showcased her skills in the Madrid doubles tournament, partnering with Turkish player Zeynep Sönmez. Together, they advanced to the second round.
In the first round, Eala and Sönmez defeated the Taiwanese-Hungarian duo of Chan Hao-ching and Fanny Stollar with a convincing score of 6-2, 6-2.
However, their journey ended in the round of 16 against the champion pair of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, where they lost 1-6, 5-7.
In singles, Eala also improved her ranking, moving up two spots to No. 42 ahead of the prestigious WTA 1000 Italian Open, which runs from May 5 to 17.
Previously ranked No. 44, Eala retained 35 points after matching her round of 64 finish at the Madrid Open.
She achieved a notable victory in the first round by defeating veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-3, before falling to world No. 21 Elise Mertens.
Following the Italian Open, Eala is set to compete in the 500 Strasbourg Grand Prix Open from May 17 to 23 and will participate in Roland Garros from May 24 to June 7.
