Filipino tennis player Alex Eala faced a tough challenge in the Italian Open, losing to world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the round of 32. Despite the defeat, Eala showcased her talent and determination.

Eala's match against Rybakina on May 10 ended with a score of 6-4, 6-3. The game, held at the Foro Italico in Rome, highlighted the significant experience gap between the two players.

Eala started strong, taking a brief lead in the second set at 2-1. However, Rybakina quickly regained control, winning five of the next six games.

The first set was closely contested, lasting nearly an hour before Rybakina secured the lead. Eala continued to fight, even breaking Rybakina's serve before falling behind.

Despite the loss, Eala's performance marks a significant step in her career. It was her first time reaching the third round of a WTA Tour clay event, following earlier victories.

Looking Ahead

Eala is set to compete in the Internationaux de Strasbourg from May 17 to 23, ahead of the French Open, which starts on May 24.

Eala displayed flashes of brilliance in her bid to pull off the giant upset.
