Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has advanced to the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open after defeating world No. 8 Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-4 early Saturday morning, local time.
Eala's Winning Streak Against Top Players
I've been watching her since I was a kid, so to be able to compete with her today is such an honor. I really admire her. She's a mother, and I find her to act with such elegance and strength. I'm really lucky to have had this match today.
Alex Eala, Tennis Player
Eala opened the match strong, racing to a 3-0 lead in the first set before Svitolina managed to respond. Although Svitolina narrowed the gap to 4-3, Eala quickly regained momentum, winning the next two games to take the set.
The second set began competitively, with the score tied at 2-2. Eala then surged ahead, leading 5-2, just one game away from victory. Despite Svitolina's late comeback, Eala maintained her composure and secured the win.
This victory marks Eala's sixth win against a Top 10 player on the WTA Tour and sets her up for a semifinal match against 13th-ranked Linda Noskova.
Should Eala win against Noskova, she will face the winner of the match between world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 4 Jessica Pegula in the finals.
