Alex Eala of the Philippines is set to face Wang Xinyu of China in the round of 64 at the WTA 1000 Italian Open in Rome on Friday.
The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Manila time.
Eala, ranked 42nd globally, previously met Wang at the ASB Classic semifinals in January, where she narrowly lost in a three-set match.
Eala began her Italian Open journey with a victory over Poland's Magdalena Frech, winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
Should Eala defeat Wang, she may face world No. 2 Elena Rybakina next, who is favored against Maria Sakkari.
Eala expressed confidence in her clay court abilities, stating she is adjusting well to the surface at the professional level.
I’m finding my footing and I know that I can do well. I’m a much better player physically and mentally than I was last year.
Alex Eala
Having trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy since she was 13, Eala is focused on improving her game.
Wang, who received a first-round bye, recently faced a defeat in Spain, losing in the round of 16.
