Filipino weightlifter Albert Delos Santos made headlines by breaking the junior world record at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt. The 19-year-old dominated the men’s 71-kg division with a total lift of 326 kilograms.
Delos Santos achieved a remarkable clean and jerk lift of 187 kilograms, surpassing his previous record of 185 kilograms set at the IWF World Championships in Peru in May 2025. This victory not only secured him the gold medal but also marked his arrival as a formidable competitor on the world stage.
The Zamboanga native also outperformed his prior lift of 186 kilograms, which he achieved during the 2025 Southeast Asian Games where he earned a silver medal. Delos Santos trains under the guidance of Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz and her husband-coach Julius Naranjo at the HD Weightlifting Academy in Rizal.
