Speaker Faustino Dy III has called on individuals to cease the dissemination of fake news, stating it does not aid in addressing the nation's challenges. In his speech during the opening of Congress, Dy highlighted the House's dedication to serving the public.
Dy remarked, "This is the essence of our service: we are ready for any challenge and focused on the welfare of the people. We urge those spreading doubt to stop, as it does not contribute to resolving our country's issues."
His statement comes amidst rising concerns over misinformation, particularly regarding power costs. Rep. Terry Ridon supported Dy's call, citing alleged disinformation from the Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN), which misrepresented electricity bills.
Focus on Genuine Issues
Dy emphasized that every decision made by the House is aimed at benefiting the public. He expressed gratitude to lawmakers and committees for their hard work during the congressional recess, especially regarding ongoing impeachment hearings.
Ridon noted that PGMN's viral content misled viewers by showcasing different accounts as if they were the same household's bills, raising concerns about the spread of misinformation. He has since filed a resolution for an inquiry into organized disinformation.
We will perform our mandate and duty justly and honestly because we believe that there is nothing worth more than principles and dignity.
Speaker Faustino Dy III
As Congress resumes, Dy reiterated the House's commitment to remain active and focused on pressing issues, including energy costs and the impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte.
