Senate President Vicente Sotto III has suggested that Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa respond to an ethics complaint filed against him. This recommendation was made during an interview on Monday as the Senate resumed its regular session.

Sotto indicated he would propose to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, led by Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito, that Dela Rosa be asked to clarify the allegations.

He emphasized the importance of due process, likening the potential action to issuing show-cause orders for those who miss Senate hearings.

The complaint, filed on February 25 by the anti-corruption group Wag Kang KuCorrupt, raises concerns over Dela Rosa's absence since November 11, 2025. The group claims this absence constitutes a dereliction of duty.

Sotto clarified that he is not the committee chair and his recommendation does not imply a decision has been made regarding the suspension of Dela Rosa's salary and allowances.

Background of the Complaint

The complaint against Dela Rosa is unprecedented, focusing on the implications his extended absence has on legislative duties. Wag Kang KuCorrupt, led by former Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno, argues that Dela Rosa continues to receive compensation despite failing to perform his responsibilities.

The complaint highlights the need for accountability among public officials who neglect their duties, especially those in the Senate.

As of now, Dela Rosa has not reached out to Sotto regarding the allegations, and no formal action has been taken by the Ethics Committee.
