The Philippine Senate is considering a bill that would provide a one-time cash grant of P5,000 to help recent graduates cover job-hunting expenses.
Senate Bill No. 1961, known as the 'Fresh Graduates P5,000 One-Time Cash Grant Act of 2026,' aims to support new graduates as they transition from education to employment.
Authored by Senator JV Ejercito, the bill has been assigned to the Senate Committees on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education and Finance.
Ejercito explained that many fresh graduates struggle with job search costs, including transportation to interviews and the purchase of work attire.
He noted that financial difficulties add to the pressure these young individuals face while seeking employment.
According to the 2025 Labor Force Survey, unemployment among college graduates increased to 35.6% as of December 2024, highlighting the challenges in the job market.
While the First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act provides fee waivers, Ejercito believes direct cash grants will further assist graduates in their job search.
He emphasized the government's commitment to easing the financial burdens of young Filipinos aspiring to join the workforce.
To access the cash grant, graduates will need to present proof of completion, such as a diploma or certification from their educational institution.
