The Philippine National Police (PNP) has rejected claims that officers infiltrated a Labor Day rally to incite violence. PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño stated that video evidence shows who instigated the clashes during the May 1 demonstration in Manila.
Tuaño's comments came after Jerome Adonis, chairperson of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), alleged that police intelligence operatives mingled with protesters to sabotage the event.
The Manila Police District (MPD) plans to file charges against Adonis and several other demonstrators over violent incidents, including the burning of an effigy, which may breach the Public Assembly Act.

Adonis criticized the PNP for being overly reactive, claiming that some officers disguised as civilians entered the protest ranks to create trouble.
The PNP cries easily and is quick to be irritated… Some of them who were civilian police intel even entered our ranks to cause trouble and sabotage our rally.

In response, Tuaño emphasized the PNP's commitment to respecting public opinion but maintained that the police were preparing to take legal action against the protesters.
As of now, the MPD is gathering affidavits from injured officers, with further legal action pending their medical clearance.
The Labor Day rally, organized by KMU and other groups, aimed to protest President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s inaction on wage increases and the rising costs of living.
Protesters attempted to march towards the U.S. Embassy but were blocked by police, leading to a confrontation that left at least nine officers injured.
