Around 350 non-resident Filipinos (NRFs), along with government officials and civic leaders, are convening today for the 2026 Filipino Diaspora Summit in Manila.
Organized by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), this year's summit carries the theme: "Transformation Through Diaspora Engagement: Harnessing Filipino Global Power in Advancing the Philippines' Cultural, Economic, and Political Goals."
CFO Secretary Dante Ang II emphasized the significance of these global citizens, acknowledging the more than five million NRFs as vital partners in the Philippines' national development.
A Unique Approach to Diaspora Engagement
Unlike traditional migrant-serving agencies, the CFO represents a diverse group, including permanent residents, naturalized citizens, and marriage migrants. This diversity allows for a broader approach to engaging Filipinos abroad.
The summit serves as a platform to convert the commitment of the diaspora into meaningful partnerships and actions that can drive change in various sectors, including culture, economy, and politics.
