National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag expressed his readiness to address the cyberlibel complaint filed by Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte. Matibag indicated that he would seek advice from the agency's legal team before determining his next steps.

Details of the Complaint

Duterte's complaint names Matibag and Rodulfo Gracioso Jr., a former aide who claims to have acted as a bagman for the Duterte family. Gracioso alleges he delivered substantial sums of money to family members, including over P2 billion to Vice President Sara Duterte.

I welcome the filing of the complaint as it allows the matter to be resolved through the proper legal process.

Melvin Matibag, NBI Director
  • Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte filed the complaint.
  • Respondents include media executives from GMA Network.
  • Gracioso's allegations involve deliveries of over P3 billion.

While Matibag has yet to review the filed complaint-affidavit at the Davao City Prosecutor's Office, he remains optimistic about the investigation's outcome. Gracioso's claims, which have been under NBI scrutiny, assert that he acted under the direction of former House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

The Vice President has publicly denied the allegations, asserting she was not present during the alleged cash deliveries. The NBI's investigation continues, with Gracioso having undergone two lie detector tests showing no signs of deception.
