Four former bodyguards of Zaldy Co were arrested in San Juan City due to a cyberlibel case as the investigation into their activities intensifies.
The San Juan City police, led by Chief of Police Col. Anthony Gantang, confirmed that the arrests occurred while the individuals were already at the Hall of Justice.
After their arrest, the four ex-bodyguards promptly posted bail set at P10,000 each, allowing them to secure their release by 4:00 p.m. the same day.
Context of the Arrests
This incident is part of a broader investigation involving Zaldy Co and his entourage, commonly referred to as 'maleta boys'.
The group has attracted attention for their claims of being involved in cash deliveries for various public figures, including Co.
Notably, at least 10 other former bodyguards have been arrested on perjury charges, indicating ongoing legal troubles for the group.
Their testimonies have been inconsistent, with some recanting their statements and opting for silence instead.

The case is emblematic of the larger issues surrounding accountability and integrity in Philippine politics, especially considering the high-profile nature of Zaldy Co's previous role.
