Election lawyer Romeo Macalintal recognized members of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) for their invaluable contributions to supporting marginalized communities in the Philippines.

His remarks were made during the 9th Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Grand National Convention, where he served as a guest lecturer.

Macalintal emphasized the PAO's role as defenders of the marginalized, stating, 'You are not just PAO; you are the champions of the poor in the country.'

He reflected on his own career, expressing a sense of missed opportunity for not serving as a PAO lawyer. 'In all my years of practice, I have had a fulfilling journey, but seeing the work you do makes me realize what I missed,' he said.

Macalintal’s Connection to PAO

Despite his private practice, Macalintal noted his ongoing connection to PAO through his son, Atty. Victor Macalintal, who serves as a PAO lawyer.

He praised PAO chief Persida Acosta for her relentless efforts in elevating the status of PAO lawyers, ensuring they are respected alongside top private practitioners.

'Your work restores the dignity of the poor,' he concluded, reinforcing the importance of legal advocacy for the underprivileged.
