In a significant move to enhance public safety, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the licenses of three bus drivers and two conductors after they tested positive for illegal drugs during a random screening in Pasay City.
This initiative is part of the LTO's ongoing efforts to enforce Republic Act 10586, known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
Out of 64 individuals screened, five were found using narcotics, raising concerns about the safety of public transport.
Previous Incident Raises Alarm
One of the drivers who tested positive was involved in a recent incident where a bus crashed into roadside barriers along EDSA in Quezon City, allegedly while using his mobile phone.
Driving while under the influence of illegal drugs is a serious threat to public safety. We will not let these people who endanger the lives of their passengers and other road users to continue driving.

Lacanilao emphasized the urgency of this action, stating, "Because of this, we immediately ordered the revocation of their licenses to ensure that they will no longer drive any vehicle."

The LTO plans to ramp up random drug testing and terminal inspections to promote safe public transportation. This enforcement aims to mitigate risks associated with drug-impaired driving.
