Solo mothers in the Philippines are receiving renewed hope as legislative measures are introduced to facilitate access to benefits under the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act. This act is crucial for the more than 93% of single parents who are mothers.
Several resolutions have been filed in the House of Representatives aimed at streamlining the application process for solo parents. These include House Resolutions calling for inquiries into the implementation of the Act, as well as bills aimed at enhancing support for these families.
Among the proposed legislation, House Bill No. 2372 seeks to amend existing laws to simplify the registration process for solo parents, while another bill aims to eliminate the need for barangay certification when issuing solo parent IDs. Additional bills propose increased benefits, including financial assistance and mental health support.
Inspiring Stories from Solo Mothers

“If you have the determination within yourself that you want to give your children a bright future, you’d sacrifice a lot,” Emer said.
