Lapu-Lapu City will close several roads on May 8, 2026, in preparation for the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Leaders’ Summit.
These closures aim to enhance public safety and facilitate the movement of delegates attending this high-profile event.
Mayor Cindi King-Chan emphasized that these measures follow international security protocols for welcoming world leaders.
Road Closures Details
The affected areas include routes near the Mactan Cebu International Airport and local resort-hotels.
A temporary lockdown will affect the Asean Lane starting at 7 a.m., covering a stretch from JPark Island Resort to the Liberty Shrine.
Motorists are advised of the following road closure schedule:
- **07:00 AM – 07:30 AM:** Asean Lane
- **08:30 AM – 09:30 AM:** Asean Lane
- **10:00 AM – 10:30 AM:** Asean Lane
- **11:00 AM – 11:30 AM:** Asean Lane
- **1:00 PM – 2:00 PM:** MEX Complex
- **3:00 PM – 4:00 PM:** Asean Lane
- **4:00 PM – 4:15 PM:** MEX Complex
- **4:45 PM – 5:00 PM:** MEX Complex
- **5:30 PM – 6:30 PM:** Asean Lane
- **7:45 PM – 9:00 PM:** Asean Lane and MCIA
Significance of the Asean Summit
The summit will officially commence Friday morning, addressing critical issues like regional security, food security, and economic cooperation.
