The House of Representatives is gearing up for a crucial vote on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry L. Ridon has stated that this vote is essential for truth, accountability, and justice.
Ridon, who serves on the House committee on justice and leads the committee on public accounts, described the voting process as a constitutional obligation rather than a mere political maneuver.
This fight is ultimately the nation’s fight—for truth, for accountability, for justice.
Rep. Terry L. Ridon
He highlighted the historical significance of the upcoming vote, noting that it marks the second impeachment attempt against Vice President Duterte under different congressional sessions.
Ridon anticipates that at least 215 House members will support the impeachment, mirroring the number from last year's proceedings.
The impeachment trial will address serious allegations, including unexplained wealth, misuse of confidential funds, threats against the President, and bribery. Ridon claims robust evidence, including testimonies and documents, backs these allegations.
He pointed out that a staggering ₱6.77 billion in transactions are linked to the Vice President and her spouse, far exceeding her declared net worth of ₱88.5 million.
Ridon further noted that the House committee found significant grounds for Duterte's accountability regarding the misuse of confidential funds, following a Commission on Audit directive to return ₱448 million due to unsupported expenditures.
Additionally, he mentioned clear evidence of threats made by Duterte against President Marcos and other officials, asserting that these constitute a betrayal of public trust.
Taken together, these acts constitute a clear showing of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
