Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has called for national government support in rehabilitating areas affected by the unrest of Mount Kanlaon. This follows a recent discussion with Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

Federal Commitment to Community Safety

The national government is committed to assist if Kanlaon erupts again.

During the meeting, Teodoro expressed concern for communities in La Castellana, which remains at risk of volcanic activity. Lacson noted that disaster preparedness and long-term recovery were central topics.

  • La Castellana is particularly vulnerable to eruptions.
  • The provincial government has allocated land for displaced residents.

Lacson shared that a property has been designated for the relocation of affected families, a move that Teodoro praised. However, the governor emphasized the need for collaboration with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to develop permanent housing.

He expressed optimism that DHSUD will provide the necessary funding to construct homes for those displaced by volcanic activity. "We hope DHSUD should put out some money for the building of houses," Lacson said.
