Five members of the New People’s Army (NPA) died during clashes with government troops in Bacolod City on May 15. The encounters occurred in Barangay Abaca and Barangay Poblacion.

The Philippine Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion acted on tips from local residents regarding armed group activity. This intelligence was critical, leading to active engagements with the rebels.
During the operations, the military recovered various weapons, including M16 and M14 rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, and multiple hand grenades. This marks a continued effort to weaken the insurgents in the province.
Maj. Gen. Samson emphasized the importance of community cooperation in the military's successes. He noted that the operation reflects increasing trust between residents and the armed forces.
Brig. Gen. Jason Jumawan confirmed that the deceased rebels were from the South West Front, a faction responsible for multiple civilian deaths in recent months. He stated, 'The group is clearly collapsing,' highlighting the diminished strength and support for the NPA.
The fatalities were identified as Gilbert Tingson alias 'Kolinting,' Rolando Dantes alias 'Anyo,' and Jobert Casipong alias 'John/Robi.' Authorities are working to confirm the identities of the other rebels.
This clash follows a previous engagement in April, where military forces killed 19 insurgents, further destabilizing NPA operations in Negros.
