Davao City's 21st City Council has formally backed the 48th National Disability Rights Week, running from July 17 to 23, 2026. The resolution was passed during a session held on July 11.
Highlighting Contributions of PWDs
This serves as an opportunity to raise awareness toward discrimination and to foster a more inclusive society where PWD have full participation in terms of social, cultural, economic, and political life.

Councilor Villafuerte emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of persons with disabilities. He noted that the week is a chance to enhance awareness about discrimination against PWDs.
Atty. Redendo Martinez, head of the PWD Affairs Office, also spoke about the significant role of social justice in the initiatives planned for the week. He expressed appreciation for local ordinances that support PWD rights, including employment programs and access to entertainment.
The week's festivities will commence on July 17 with a ceremonial streamer hanging at Rizal Park, followed by the launch of the annual financial assistance subsidy for PWDs.
Activities lined up for the week include talent and sports competitions on July 18, a product display opening on July 20, and educational seminars on July 22. The events aim to foster engagement and provide valuable resources for PWDs.
The celebration will conclude on July 23 with a culmination program featuring a poster-making contest and a cultural showcase titled 'Sayawitan'.
