The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that approximately P200 million will be needed to facilitate special elections in Cavite's 4th District, scheduled for Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed the figure and mentioned that the agency is actively looking for funding sources.
"We'll need more or less P200 million. So, at present, the Comelec is still looking at where we will get the funds," said Garcia.
The special elections are a direct response to the recent expulsion of Representative Francisco Barzaga Jr. by the House of Representatives for disorderly conduct.
Garcia reassured that, despite budget constraints, the honoraria for poll workers, particularly teachers, will not be compromised.
In light of the funding challenge, Comelec is implementing cost-saving measures to ensure that the elections proceed smoothly.
This situation highlights the ongoing financial pressures facing electoral bodies in the Philippines, particularly when unplanned elections arise.
