The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is on track for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections on September 14 and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on November 2, according to Chairman George Erwin Garcia.
During a recent press briefing in Puerto Princesa City, Garcia stated that preparations are 90% complete, particularly for the BSKE. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth voting process across the regions.
Security Measures and Voter Registration

Garcia noted that security discussions have been held with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, and other agencies to ensure safety during the elections.

- 1.3 million newly registered voters for Sangguniang Kabataan
As of now, there are approximately 95 million registered voters across the country, including 25 million for the SK elections. Garcia mentioned that only one town in Basilan is classified as high-risk, while most areas remain secure.
Focus on Vulnerable Sectors
Garcia emphasized special provisions for vulnerable populations, including persons deprived of liberty, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, the elderly, and pregnant women. These groups will have designated voting hours from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.
This initiative aims to improve accessibility for these sectors, reflecting Comelec's commitment to inclusivity in the electoral process.
Additionally, the upcoming parliamentary elections in BARMM will be automated for the first time, while the BSKE will remain manual. This change marks a significant advancement in the Philippine electoral system.
