The Commission on Elections in the Negros Island Region (COMELEC-NIR) has officially stated that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will proceed as planned on November 2, 2026.
This announcement comes in response to misleading reports circulating on social media suggesting that the elections would be postponed.
Clarification from COMELEC-NIR
The BSKE has not been postponed. The election will definitely proceed this November because there is no legal basis or new legislation that moves or delays the date.
Lionel Marco Castillano, COMELEC-NIR Director
Director Castillano emphasized that the law recently signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. only postponed the previous schedule of BSKE from May 2025 to the current date.
As preparations for the elections continue, the COMELEC expects to finalize voter registration data within two to three weeks. They are also monitoring the clustering of polling precincts.
Castillano urged the public to disregard unverified information and rely on official announcements from COMELEC and other government channels.
With official preparations in full swing, the organization reiterates the importance of accurate communication to ensure a smooth electoral process.
