The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that teachers who serve as electoral board members can now claim their service incentive credits immediately after elections. This change is part of Comelec Resolution No. 11212-A, issued recently.
Changes to Service Credit Policies
Previously, teachers had to avail of their service credits within three months following elections. The new resolution removes this limitation, allowing service credits to be accessed at any time after electoral events.
For NLEs, BSKEs, BPEs, special elections, plebiscites, initiatives, referenda or recall elections, the service credit may be availed of at any time after the date of the election or electoral exercise.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that teachers serving during national and local elections will receive 10-day service incentive credits, while those participating in special elections or plebiscites will earn five days.

Garcia emphasized that while these credits cannot be monetized, they represent a valuable recognition of teachers' contributions during elections. The Comelec also plans to provide an honorarium of P3,000 to teachers serving in the upcoming Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections on September 14, 2026.
This policy adjustment follows consultations with the Department of Education and feedback from teachers and organizations such as the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Party-list, highlighting the Comelec’s commitment to address the needs of educators involved in the electoral process.
