Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, reported a total of P85,343,803.23 in after-tax income from 2007 to 2025, according to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). This figure was presented during Duterte's impeachment trial on October 8, 2026.

BIR lawyer Anne Marquez confirmed that the amount reflects the couple's net income after deductions and taxes. The revelation has sparked questions regarding the significant increase in Duterte's declared net worth, which reached P98,656,131.20 in her 2025 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

Discrepancies in Financial Reporting

The question is, how did your net worth increase by more than the amount you declared during the same period?

Benjamin Tolosa Jr., Legal Spokesperson for the Prosecution

Lawyer Benjamin Tolosa Jr. raised concerns about the disparity between the couple's reported income and Duterte's net worth. From 2007 to 2025, her net worth increased by approximately P91.41 million, surpassing their combined after-tax income by about P6.06 million.

Tolosa emphasized that even assuming no living expenses, the increase in net worth raises crucial questions about the couple's financial disclosures.

Marquez also revealed that despite her vice presidency, Duterte continued to receive compensation from the Davao City government in 2023. Additionally, she reported other income totaling P1.058 million in 2024 and P1.082 million in 2025.

The BIR has issued a letter of authority allowing for a comprehensive examination of Duterte and Carpio's tax records to ensure compliance with tax regulations. This scrutiny comes in light of constitutional provisions that prohibit the President and Vice President from receiving additional government compensation during their terms.
