The 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit will be held in Cebu on May 7 and 8, 2026, with preparations in place for potential weather challenges.
This decision comes after a low-pressure area (LPA) was reported entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on May 5, affecting Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao, with expected rains in Cebu.
"We have regular coordination and collaboration among stakeholder government agencies," said Director-General Ma. Hellen De La Vega during a press briefing.

The Asean National Organizing Council’s Committee on Security, Peace and Order, and Emergency Preparedness and Response is implementing contingency measures.
According to Pagasa-Mactan Chief Al Quiblat, the LPA poses no direct threat to Cebu. However, cloudy skies and rain are likely due to prevailing easterlies.
The heat index in Cebu is expected to reach 37 to 38 degrees Celsius during the summit, which is classified as extreme caution.
Prolonged exposure to such heat can lead to heat cramps or exhaustion, and continuous activity may result in heat stroke.
Pagasa is also monitoring a tropical depression located outside PAR, which may enter the area soon.
The summit will take place in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, with various key events scheduled across the two days.
