Sotto's tenure, which began in September after he took over from Francis "Chiz" Escudero, faced challenges from the onset. Rumors of a coup circulated following investigations led by the Senate blue ribbon committee.
The committee's draft report suggested a preliminary investigation into possible involvement of current and former senators in the alleged corruption, although it has yet to secure enough signatures for a formal report.
Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson addressed these issues on the Senate floor, warning that ongoing investigations could jeopardize Sotto's leadership.
