The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) commended the Atin Ito Coalition for its successful mission in the West Philippine Sea, calling it a demonstration of Filipino resilience and a strong assertion of national sovereignty.
On Labor Day, the coalition conducted its fourth civilian mission, which included planting the Philippine flag on Pag-asa Cay 2. This area has recently been a focal point of tensions between the Philippines and China due to increased Chinese Coast Guard activity.
By peacefully asserting our presence in the West Philippine Sea, the 'Atin Ito' mission amplifies the voice of our fisherfolk and local communities.

Rear Adm. Trinidad noted that the mission highlights the significance of the West Philippine Sea as not only a strategic maritime area but also an essential part of the nation's heritage and livelihoods.
The AFP reiterated its commitment to protecting the Philippines' territorial integrity and supporting initiatives that align with the 2016 Arbitral Award, which invalidated China's expansive claims in the region.
Despite the international ruling, tensions remain as China continues to assert its claims, disregarding the sovereignty of the Philippines over its exclusive economic zone.
