Sixty-six families in Mactan have returned to their homes after a 12-day relocation due to security measures for the ASEAN Leaders' Summit. The families were moved to a resort in Cordova from April 27 until their return on May 9, following the conclusion of the summit.
The relocation aimed to ensure safety around the Mactan Expo, a key venue for the summit held on May 7 and 8. Local officials confirmed that residents were provided with assistance and resources during their temporary stay.
We cooperated fully with authorities and the summit was a success. Nothing untoward happened. It was very peaceful. We are also happy that the authorities took care of us and provided for our needs.

Residents reported positive experiences during the relocation, likening it to a summer break. Children enjoyed swimming and families received regular health and safety checks, along with food provisions.
The cost of accommodations at the resort ranged from ₱1,600 to ₱5,500 per night. However, the total expenses for the relocation program have not been disclosed.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan clarified that the relocation order came from the National Organizing Council, not the local government.
