The Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan (TTKD) festival, which took place recently on MacArthur Highway in Balibago, attracted over 35,000 attendees. As the crowd enjoyed the festivities, Mayor Carmelo “Jon” B. Lazatin II prompted attendees to reflect on the festival's true significance.

The Origins of TTKD

Since its inception 34 years ago, TTKD has evolved from a small gathering into a major cultural event for the city. However, its origins are often lost on younger generations.

It is not the exclusive property of one individual or political camp. Angeles City owns TTKD. Angeleños own TTKD.

To revitalize interest in TTKD's history, Mayor Jon commissioned a mini-documentary that premiered during this year's festival. This 14-minute film aimed to reconnect the community with the event's foundations.

Unveiling the History

The documentary highlighted key figures in the festival's establishment, including Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan, the mayor during its inception. Contributions from various community members, including artists and business owners, were also acknowledged.

  • Edgardo ‘Ed’ Pamintuan: Central figure in TTKD's beginnings.
  • Nikki Reyes: Creator of early TTKD artworks and logos.
  • Raffy Angeles: Chair during the transition to a more structured organization.

Despite its shortcomings in capturing all narratives, the documentary served as an important reminder of TTKD's role in helping the community heal after the devastation of the Mount Pinatubo eruption.

A Collective Legacy

TTKD's ownership is a broader concern than political affiliations or individual contributions. It symbolizes the collective spirit of the people in Angeles City.

The festival's growth reflects not just an increase in participation but also a deepening of its significance as a cultural cornerstone.

Beyond the Party

As the event continues to flourish, it remains essential for residents to remember its roots. TTKD serves as a beacon of resilience and community, teaching future generations about the importance of unity in the face of adversity.
