Residents of Paombong, Bulacan, including local vinegar producers, are receiving vital support from the GMA Kapuso Foundation following devastating floods that disrupted their livelihoods. Known as the Vinegar Capital of the Philippines, Paombong has seen many families struggle after severe flooding submerged their homes and workplaces.
Virgilio Nicolas, a local vinegar maker, shared the impact of the floods on his business. His nipa palms, critical for sap collection, were under water for nearly a month, halting production. Furthermore, his equipment, including clay jars used for fermentation, sustained damage.
We could already harvest the fruit, but we can’t because it’s submerged in water. We have no way to collect the sap.

The flooding has not only affected vinegar production but also other local businesses. Virgilio noted that he had to stop fish farming due to losses from repeated flooding.
To address the immediate needs of affected families, the GMA Kapuso Foundation launched its Operation Bayanihan program in Barangay San Isidro 2. The foundation provided essential supplies, including food packs and hygiene items.
Barangay Captain Nicanor Pasco highlighted the breadth of the impact, stating many community members have been unable to work due to the floods.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation has reached approximately 8,000 individuals affected by the flooding thus far. Their assistance extends beyond Bulacan, providing support to communities in Pangasinan and La Union also impacted by the Southwest Monsoon.
