A long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) was rescued on September 14, 2026, in Barangay Dubdub, Badian, following serious injuries sustained during a territorial confrontation with other monkeys.

Community Involvement in Wildlife Rescue

Monkeys are territorial. Based on my understanding, monkeys are territorial creatures.

Manolito Recopelacion, Head, Menro Badian
  • The macaque was reported by a local resident at around 9:30 a.m.
  • Injuries included multiple bite wounds and scratches on its leg, ear, and head.

Local authorities from the Badian Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) quickly responded to the report. Personnel safely retrieved the macaque and provided necessary medical treatment, including antibiotics.

Recopelacion noted that the macaque's injuries were consistent with an attack by other primates, not human actions. He explained that territorial behavior among macaques is common.

The injured macaque is now under care and has begun eating, indicating a positive recovery.

The area where the macaque was found, along the Badian-Mantalongon road, is frequently traveled by farmers and has become a site where wildlife encounters are common.

Recopelacion mentioned that this habituation to humans could have contributed to the macaque's injuries, as it may not have recognized the danger posed by other macaques.

While the road is primarily used for agricultural access, it has attracted visitors due to its scenic views, raising concerns about wildlife interactions.
