Pop icon Debbie Gibson and Black Sabbath co-founder Terry "Geezer" Butler are making headlines for their efforts in animal welfare.
The duo gathered in Madison, Wisconsin, to support the transition of about 1,500 beagles rescued from Ridglan Farms, a breeding and research facility.
Gibson expressed her emotions while holding the dogs, stating, "It was so profound to be able to hold each of these dogs in our arms and be able to assure them that their new life was starting."
Butler, who also cared for beagles from the Dane County Humane Society, shared his love for these pets, saying, "They’ve never let me down. They’re always loving."
The recent rescue efforts follow a violent protest at Ridglan Farms, where advocates clashed with police while trying to save the dogs.
The Center for a Humane Economy and Big Dog Ranch Rescue facilitated the purchase of the beagles for an undisclosed sum.
The dogs are now receiving veterinary care before being moved to shelters for adoption.
Interest in adopting these beagles is high, with over 1,300 inquiries at the Dane County Humane Society alone.
Wayne Pacelle, president of the Center for a Humane Economy, noted, "It’s not a tough sell to get beagles into homes."
Earlier this month, the first 1,000 beagles were removed from Ridglan Farms, and the remaining 500 began arriving at shelters this week.
Ridglan Farms agreed to surrender its state breeding license amid allegations of animal mistreatment.
Butler described the day as historic, stating, "This is just the beginning."
Gibson, who plans to foster a beagle, added, "This little guy was the last one put in my arms, and I couldn’t put him back in a cage."
When asked about a potential collaboration for a song about dogs, both stars shared a laugh, hinting at the possibility.
