The GMA Kapuso Foundation has stepped up to assist families in La Union by providing school supplies to 3,000 incoming kindergarten and Grade 1 students. This distribution was part of the foundation's Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project.
The initiative comes at a time when many parents in the region are struggling financially. Marivic Valdez, a farmer and masseuse, shared her experience of having to recycle old notebooks for her children’s school needs.
Ni-re-recycle, tiyaga-tiyaga lang, 'pag may kinita ka araw-araw para makaraos ng buhay, mag-ipon sampu-sampu o bente-bente.

Another recipient, Richard Edem, a single father, expressed the challenges he faces while trying to provide for his family.
Napakahirap, halos hindi ko na alam kung anong gagawin o anong iisipin para lamang kumita kasi isang banyera lang po.

Genny Alay-ay, a public school district supervisor, emphasized the program's impact, stating it serves as motivation for students to return to school.
Maging inspiration nila ito para at least mas maganahan na pumasok ulit. Malaking tulong na ito para hindi lang sa mga bata kundi pati na rin sa mga magulang.
