Local GP's Office
- Three meningitis cases reported linked to Henley College.
- One case confirmed as meningitis B, with further test results pending.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has launched an investigation into the outbreak. They are collaborating with health and educational partners to provide precautionary antibiotics to individuals who had close contact with the infected.
In light of this situation, local health authorities are reaching out to those identified as at risk. They have informed students and parents about the symptoms of meningitis, which include fever, headache, vomiting, and a rash.
Despite the seriousness of the disease, UKHSA emphasizes that the risk to the general public remains low. The agency also highlighted that meningitis is diagnosed in approximately 300 to 400 cases each year across England, primarily affecting young children and adults.
This latest incident follows a meningitis outbreak in Kent earlier this year that resulted in two fatalities, prompting increased vaccine demand and awareness.
