The Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines has commenced construction on the Tzu Chi Medical Center, the first of its kind in the country. This new facility symbolizes a major step in the foundation's 32-year mission of humanitarian service.
The center will focus on providing affordable, patient-centered healthcare, addressing critical challenges in accessibility and quality. The urgent need for such services is evident, as a recent report ranked the Philippines 87th out of 110 in healthcare resilience.
Public hospitals are overwhelmed, leaving many Filipinos without sufficient care. The Tzu Chi Medical Center, a private, non-profit institution, aims to meet this demand by adhering to the principles of Saving Lives, Protecting Health, and Upholding the Mission of Love.
A Legacy of Compassionate Care
Tzu Chi's medical outreach began in 1995 with its first free clinic in Baguio City. Over the years, the foundation has expanded its services, including the opening of the Tzu Chi Great Love Eye Center in Zamboanga City, which has restored vision for countless low-income patients.
With nearly 300 medical missions conducted nationwide, Tzu Chi has provided essential medical services to remote communities, including general medicine, surgery, and specialized care for children.
Innovative Care for All
The Tzu Chi Medical Center will embody a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of patients. It will feature environments conducive to healing, plant-based nutrition options, and a strong volunteer network from the Tzu Chi International Medical Association.
Sustainability will also play a key role in the center's design, incorporating recycling systems, water conservation, and energy-efficient practices.
