The MV Hondius, a cruise ship anchored off Cape Verde, is facing a hantavirus emergency after three passengers died and others fell ill. Over half of the ship's 61 crew members are Filipinos.
Currently, 38 of the crew members hail from the Philippines. The ship is now docked near Praia, Cape Verde's capital, and is under strict health protocols.

In total, 149 individuals are aboard, representing 23 nationalities. Among them are 88 passengers, including 19 from Britain and 17 from the United States.
The fatalities include a Dutch male passenger and a German passenger, whose deaths are suspected to be linked to the virus. One British passenger is critically ill and receiving treatment in South Africa.
The health situation on board is serious, with isolation protocols now in effect, as confirmed by the ship's operator, Oceanwide Expeditions.

Cape Verdean authorities have prohibited passengers from disembarking. Plans are being considered to transfer them to Las Palmas or Tenerife for further medical evaluation.
