On July 8, 2026, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Education Secretary Sonny Angara officially launched the Expanded School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) at Pulilan Central School. This initiative aims to tackle hunger and malnutrition among public school students across the Philippines.
A Nationwide Commitment to Child Nutrition
Alam naman natin na kung minsan ang nagiging dahilan kung bakit hindi makapag-aral nang mabuti ang mga kabataan ay kulang sa pagkain. Kaya tinanggal na natin ang problema na iyan. Ang pamahalaan na ang tutulong, ang pamahalaan na ang magpapakain.

The expanded program will provide universal feeding to all Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, while offering targeted support for undernourished learners from Grades 2 to 6. This initiative responds to alarming statistics from the Department of Science and Technology–Food and Nutrition Research Institute, which reported a rise in the stunting rate among children under five to 25.3 percent.
Angara emphasized that the program represents more than just meal provision; it is a long-term investment in children's health and education. He stated, "Every percentage point represents a Filipino child whose potential is being compromised."
The launch coincided with Nutrition Month, reinforcing the importance of this initiative. Simultaneous activities across the nation marked the program's implementation, highlighting the government's commitment to improving child nutrition.
In addition, Angara and Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. signed a Joint Administrative Order to solidify the partnership between the Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture. This agreement aims to enhance the milk-feeding component of the program, utilizing resources from the National Dairy Authority and the Philippine Carabao Center.
