Path of Exile 2 is gearing up for a significant update with the release of Patch 0.5, named Return of the Ancients, on May 29. This patch promises an extensive overhaul of the endgame experience, featuring new mechanics and quality-of-life improvements.
Developer Grinding Gear Games announced that the update will revamp core endgame systems such as the Atlas, introducing new corrupted zones, redesigned progression paths, and unique boss encounters.
A key addition is the Ancient Strongholds, expansive endgame areas that offer challenging enemies, unique modifiers, and rewards tied to the new progression structure. Players can expect enhanced loot and new Atlas progression options.
Increased Freedom in Gameplay
The Atlas system will allow players more freedom in exploring the game world. The patch will restructure map progression and provide players with direct control over their pathing and encounter choices.
Additionally, players will have access to ships to explore various islands, adding a new layer of adventure to the game.
Reworked Mechanics for a Better Experience
Several existing game mechanics, including Delirium and Breach, will receive balance updates and adjustments. This includes changes in enemy density and encounter pacing, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience.
For newcomers, the update includes an In-Game Build Planner and helpful tips throughout the map, making it easier to navigate the complex world of Path of Exile 2.
Introducing Two New Ascendancy Classes
The patch will also introduce two new Ascendancy classes. The Martial Artist for the Monk offers new combat techniques, including the ability to create illusions that mimic skills, allowing players to maximize area damage.
The second class, the Huntress’s Spirit Walker, incorporates Azmerian animal spirits, offering unique abilities tied to different spirits like the Stag, Owl, and Bear. Players can even tame Beast Bosses, adding a unique twist to gameplay.
More Content Ahead
Patch 0.5 will include over 30 new unique items, support gems, and crafting options, along with more than 15 new bosses and pinnacle encounters. This substantial update aims to keep players engaged as they head into the November ExileCon in Auckland.
Fans are eager for the reveal of the 1.0 version during ExileCon, coinciding with Grinding Gear Games's 20th Anniversary.
