On July 23, 2026, *Deeper Ground, Darker Shadows: The Making of a Mindanao Rebel* was launched at the UP BGC campus in Taguig. Written by former New People's Army (NPA) leader Eddie L. Quitoriano, this memoir offers an in-depth look at his life and experiences.
A Journey from Rebel to Consultant
Quitoriano's book is divided into two parts. The first, titled “Walay Sapatos,” details his recruitment into the revolutionary movement and ascent to a leadership role within the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in Mindanao.
The narrative highlights a time when Mindanao was a vital region for the revolutionary cause, revealing how internal purges led to significant declines within the Party.
In the second part, “Deeper Ground, Darker Shadows,” Quitoriano narrates his international missions where he sought support for the armed movement, engaging with various groups from Nicaragua to North Korea.
The book recounts the author’s life in the underground, from Mindanao to foreign countries where he solicited support for the local armed movement.
