A police operation in Balamban, Cebu, on May 11, 2026, resulted in a deadly confrontation, leaving one suspect dead and an officer injured.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 PM during a pursuit operation by the Balamban Police against 18-year-old Jehu Montero De Vila, who was previously identified as a suspect in a recent homicide.

Authorities confirmed that three individuals were arrested at the scene in Sitio Himombungan, Barangay Cantuod.

Shooting Incident Details

The situation escalated when officers attempted to apprehend the suspect. Instead of surrendering, local resident Rachel Artajo allegedly opened fire on the police.

Police Corporal Jonel Dela Cruz was wounded in the exchange but survived due to his bulletproof vest. Officers returned fire, hitting Artajo, who later succumbed to her injuries at Cebu Provincial Hospital–Balamban.

Additional Arrests and Evidence

Alongside De Vila, another suspect, 40-year-old Alvan Mark Tablate, was apprehended. A 15-year-old boy, Aston Regis Juarez, was also rescued from the scene.

Police recovered several firearms and suspected illegal drugs during the operation. The evidence is currently undergoing processing.

Investigation and Officer's Condition

The area was secured by police to preserve the crime scene, and forensic teams were called to investigate the incident further.

The wounded officer is now reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical care as the investigation continues.
