Two motorcycle riders lost their lives in separate accidents involving trucks in Cebu, prompting urgent calls for improved road safety measures.

The first incident occurred early Sunday morning, May 3, in Minglanilla, where a rider crashed into the back of a dump truck that had halted at a red light.

The rider, identified as Julius Sismar from Naga City, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Details of the Minglanilla Crash

Minglanilla Municipal Police reported that the collision occurred around 1:14 a.m. while both vehicles were heading southbound. The truck driver, Daniel Pritos Flores, was arrested for reckless driving and is currently in custody.

Discussions between authorities and Sismar's family regarding a settlement are ongoing.

Fatal Incident in Argao

Another tragedy unfolded on May 1 in Argao, where a motorcycle collided with a stationary dump truck. The rider, 60-year-old Pedro Carillo Mamac, also succumbed to injuries after the crash.

Police stated that the truck was parked due to a flat tire but lacked proper warning signals, which may have contributed to the accident.

Mamac was pronounced dead after being rushed to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities are actively investigating both incidents to determine liability and prevent future tragedies. Community concerns over road safety are rising as these incidents highlight the dangers faced by motorcycle riders.
