A 63-year-old man died, and four others were injured when a blue cargo truck fell into a ravine in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur, on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. in Barangay Kitaan Dagat, according to local police.
Police Captain Derf Jay Maquinta reported that the vehicle, an Isuzu truck, was traveling downhill from Zamboanga City when it experienced brake failure.
As the truck descended a steep slope, the driver lost control, leading the vehicle off the road and into a ravine.
The elderly passenger died immediately from injuries sustained during the crash.
Emergency responders transported the driver and three other passengers, all working as truck helpers from Luuk town in Sulu province, to the Rural Health Unit of Kumalarang for medical treatment.
