Administrative cases against police officers have surged in the first quarter of 2026. The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service (PNP IAS) reported that 1,048 officers faced charges from January to March 2026, a notable rise from 770 cases in the same period last year.
Inspector-General Brigido Dulay emphasized that this increase signifies a robust internal disciplinary mechanism. He stated, 'The rise in cases is not a setback; it is proof that we are tightening our grip on accountability.'
Dulay reassured the public that the PNP is committed to exposing violations and holding officers accountable. 'There is no place in the service for those who betray the public trust,' he asserted.
Breakdown of Cases
Among the 1,048 charged officers, 806 were non-commissioned officers, while 242 were commissioned officers. The IAS directly handled 323 of these cases, resulting in 41 dismissals, 64 suspensions, 20 demotions, and 11 reprimands, with 187 officers exonerated.
