Davao City police are preparing to file charges against one suspect involved in a daylight stabbing that injured two Emilio Ramos National High School students. The incident occurred on July 6, 2026, as the victims, both 15 years old, were walking home.

Details of the Incident

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that the attack took place around 4:20 p.m. when the victims were approached by a group of male teens. One student suffered three stab wounds, while the other sustained one.

According to PMaj Ma. Theresita Gaspan, only one suspect identified as 'Justin' will face charges, based on the recommendations from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The minors were turned over to the CSWDO and after assessment, only one was recommended for filing of a case.

The other five suspects will return to their homes after social worker intervention. This decision aims to address the needs of the minors and prevent further violence.

Community Reaction and School Response

The stabbing provoked a strong reaction from students who witnessed the attack, leading to a chaotic scene as they attempted to confront the suspects. Witnesses reported that bystanders and faculty tried to de-escalate the situation.

In the aftermath, Romeo Ticar, principal of Emilio Ramos National High School, stated that the incident might be linked to previous conflicts involving the victims and one of the alleged attackers.

Ticar emphasized that the school had previously intervened in disputes among students but expressed concern that the conflict had spilled over into the community.

Ongoing Issues of Youth Violence

This incident raises broader concerns about youth violence in Davao City. It is part of a troubling trend, as reports of similar attacks have surfaced more frequently in recent years.

School authorities are now considering additional measures to enhance safety for both students and parents, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions in youth behavior.
