Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan has urged a resident to formally report allegations of extortion involving a local traffic enforcer.
The call to action came after a netizen, Loyca Yoan, shared his experience on Facebook, claiming the enforcer attempted to extract ₱1,000 from him.
Yoan reported that he was stopped for wearing an unapproved helmet while riding his motorcycle on May 5, 2026.
He stated the enforcer demanded a fine of ₱1,500 but suggested he could pay a reduced amount directly to him.
Yoan also alleged that the enforcer refused to return his driver's license and instructed him to leave the money in a parked vehicle.
Mayor's Response
In response, Mayor King-Chan asked Yoan to file a formal complaint with the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) to initiate an investigation.
She emphasized the importance of addressing such complaints to maintain the integrity of the city's traffic enforcement.
If we confirm the enforcer's wrongdoing, I will ensure he faces proper consequences,
King-Chan stated. She expressed concern that such incidents could tarnish the reputation of honest traffic enforcers.
The mayor reiterated her commitment to not tolerating corruption within the city's enforcement agencies.
