The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the operations of three buses from Elavil Tours, Inc. for 30 days due to a fatal accident in Juban, Sorsogon. The decision comes after a tragic incident on May 11, which resulted in the deaths of two passengers in a private vehicle and left nine others injured.
The LTFRB issued a show cause order to Elavil Tours, requiring the company to explain why it should not face further penalties. LTFRB chairperson Vigor Mendoza expressed condolences to the victims' families and emphasized the agency's commitment to accountability.
In addition to the suspension, the involved driver must undergo tests to assess his condition at the time of the crash. He will also be summoned to provide an explanation regarding the incident.
The LTFRB is also reviewing whether the bus involved was regularly maintained and passed necessary safety checks. A hearing is scheduled for June 1 at the LTFRB regional office in Legazpi City.
