A lightning strike ignited a fire in Maramag, Bukidnon, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, destroying four homes. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed that the incident occurred during a stormy afternoon.
According to Fire Officer Rommel Macabasag, witnesses reported a loud noise just before the flames erupted. Initial investigations suggest that lightning hit electrical wires, causing a live cable to fall and ignite one of the houses.
Emergency responders arrived to find the fire already raging, prompting nearby residents to evacuate and salvage their belongings amid the chaos.
Fire officials noted that such incidents are rare, as lightning usually does not lead to residential fires. The area has faced frequent thunderstorms since May 1.
Authorities are now working to assist the affected families. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during this unfortunate event.
This incident marks the 12th recorded fire in Maramag this year.
