A 37-year-old criminology instructor was apprehended in Iloilo City on July 20 for allegedly selling illegal drugs. Police seized approximately 200 grams of shabu valued at P1.36 million during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Jalandoni Estate, Lapuz.

Notable Background of the Suspect

He was tagged by police as a high-value individual (HVI) in the illegal drug trade.

Police Report

The suspect, known by the alias Genmark, had been monitored for nearly three months due to suspicions of his involvement in drug activities. His background as a criminology graduate and part-time instructor at a local university raises concerns about the influence of illegal activities on the educational sector.

  • 200 grams of suspected shabu seized
  • 11 sachets and two knot-tied bags recovered
  • Additional items included cash, a digital weighing scale, and a cellphone

Authorities noted that Genmark's familiarity with law enforcement procedures might stem from his role as a reservist in the Philippine Army. Investigations are underway to track down his alleged supplier, referred to as Sadam.

In a related operation on the same day, police arrested two other individuals linked to drug trafficking in Lambunao, Iloilo. This included a 47-year-old high-value target and an 18-year-old student, with confiscated drugs valued at P442,000.
